The 25th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley has
increased the icon's record sales to a total of 100 million
units in the United States, according to the RIAA. Only three
acts--the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Garth Brooks--have shipped
more albums in this country, with numbers totaling 164.5 million,
105 million, and 105 million, respectively. Presley has garnered
more gold and platinum albums than any artist, with 88 gold,
45 platinum, and 22 multiplatinum-selling albums.
Brooks's Double Live two-disc album has been certified platinum
15 times over. Because the album, which was released in 1998,
has two discs, each is counted as one unit, meaning that actual
certification of 7.5 million copies have been shipped. |
