Garth Brooks's Teammates For Kids organization officially
announced on Friday (February 1) during a press conference
at the Staples Center in Los Angeles that the superstar has
added the National Hockey League Players Association's (NHLPA)
Goals and Dreams Fund to his charitable efforts to aid children
in need around the world .
Brooks has created the Top Shelf Teammates program, in which
players will pledge money according to goals scored, games
won, penalty box time, etc., to donate to the foundation.
Brooks's organization then works to triple the amount of money
through corporations and private donors.
The superstar and the NHLPA's Goals and Dreams Fund also
announced a first-year donation of $50,000 to TRIPOD: A Model
School Program For Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Children in Burbank,
California. "We are excited along with the NHLPA members
to be able to help fund this excellent program," said
Brooks. "Top Shelf is pleased to be teammates with the
NHLPA, and thanks to their members, we will continue to help
children in need around the world."
More than 65 NHLPA members have signed up for the program
this year. "This program is fantastic," said Jamie
Storr of the Los Angeles Kings. "When I perform on the
ice, not only am I helping my team, I'm also helping out children
in need."
Since the inception of Brooks's Teammates For Kids Foundation
in 1999, more than $20 million has been raised in cash or
donated through gifts to children in need from 37 states,
nine provinces, and 34 countries. |
