Billy Joel, the MusiCares 2002 Person Of The Year, will
be honored by Garth Brooks, Tony Bennett, Bon Jovi's Jon Bon
Jovi and Richie Sambora, pianist Richard Joo (Fantasies &
Delusions), Diana Krall, and Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas,
among others, at the 12th Annual MusiCares Person Of The Year
tribute dinner. Joel will be saluted for his accomplishments
as both a musician and a humanitarian at the Century Plaza
Hotel in Los Angeles on February 25.
The highlight of the evening will be a star-studded tribute
concert that will include performances by many of today's
biggest music acts. A silent auction featuring collectibles
such as music and sports memorabilia, artwork, and luxury
items will also take place during gala event. Proceeds from
the evening will benefit the MusiCares Financial Assistance
Program, which ensures that music people have a place to turn
in times of financial, medical, and personal need.
Bennett and Joel's duet of "New York State Of Mind"
is currently nominated for best pop collaboration at this
year's Grammy Awards. The 44th annual Grammy Awards will take
place on February 27 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
The show will air live on CBS beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
Joel has six Grammy Awards to his credit, including record
of the year and song of the year for "Just The Way You
Are" (1978); album of the year and best male pop vocal
performance for 52nd Street (1979); best male pop vocal performance
for Glass Houses (1980); and a Grammy Legend Award (1990).
